Hi, thanks for your thoughts. At Wire we try to balance a number of different goals when choosing which features to work on.

Privacy and security is the foundation of Wire but on top of that the app needs to satisfy different communication needs — text, call, video — and be engaging. Fun features may seem trivial compared to privacy but history has shown that people gravitate to solutions that can combine useful with entertaining. And communication is all about conveying different emotions, fun features help there.

The third aspect is productivity and that’s why Wire has added features like group calls, file sharing, screen sharing etc.
